Therapeutic Needs Hierarchy
Starting at the bottom of the pyramid allows us to move through automatic responses, commonly known as fight or flight. Through safe therapeutic relationships, therapists help people process tough emotions while remaining present in the here and now. When noticing the past trauma, while feeling safe in the present, we are able to put the danger (trauma) in the past, allowing our mind/body to store it as a memory. With the memory in the past, we are able to feel safe in the here and now.
